Do you work from photos? I generally prefer to work directly from life. There is so much more to a person than can be captured in a photograph and I find that the resulting portraits are much richer when the person has sat for me.
How many sittings will there be? Usually between 5 and 10 sittings depending on the size and complexity of the portrait.
How long do the sittings last? Sittings are usually 2.5 to 3 hours long, with plenty of breaks. People usually sit still for between 20 and 45 minutes between breaks.
How long will my portrait take to complete? The painting could be completed in as little as three weeks if the sitter can sit a couple of times a week. It may be another couple of weeks before the painting is touch dry and therefore safe to transport.
What should I wear? What you wear is entirely up to you. Please do make sure you wear exactly the same clothes to each sitting and try to keep hair, makeup and jewellery the same.
What should I bring to the sittings? For the first sitting it is good to bring a couple of alternative outfits. Some people also like to include in the painting things that mean something to them or reflect their character or experiences. This could be a favourite chair or something as simple as a mug, book, bag or scarf .
