Drawings & Mixed Media

"The dancer's body is simply the luminous manifestation of the soul"   Isadora Duncan

The pen and ink drawings are part of the "Dancer Series" in which I was aiming for simplicity and economy of line.  The essence of each pose has been distilled down to just enough strokes of the pen to convey a sense of weight, balance and movement.  Whilst each dancer can be viewed in isolation, the whole series when viewed together has a sense of continuity and fluidity.  Original pen and ink drawings are now available exclusively at ART@GORING.

The linocut figures are a continuation of my interest in how much can be conveyed simply by the use of line.

The mixed media pieces evolved from a deeper consideration of the female figure portrayed in one of the linocuts. Each piece is created on a single page from a book. The text of that page is combined with layers of handwritten poetry and symbols of caged birds, all of which explore the themes of constraint and melancholy.
